How do you cook mushrooms?

Three quick and easy ways to prepare gourmet mushrooms are sautéing, grilling, and roasting.

Sautéing is one of the simplest and quickest ways to cook gourmet mushrooms. Simply heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add a little oil or butter, and sauté sliced or diced mushrooms for a few minutes until they are tender and browned. To add extra flavor, you can also sauté garlic, onions, herbs, or other seasonings along with the mushrooms. Sautéed mushrooms can be served as a side dish, added to pasta, rice, or salad, or used as a topping for pizza or bruschetta.

Grilling is another popular way to cook gourmet mushrooms. To grill mushrooms, simply skewer them or place them directly on the grill grates and cook for a few minutes on each side, until they are tender and slightly charred. Grilled mushrooms can be served as a side dish, used as a topping for burgers or sandwiches, or added to salads for extra texture and flavor. To add even more flavor, you can marinate the mushrooms before grilling or brush them with a mixture of oil, herbs, and spices.

Roasting is another simple and flavorful way to cook gourmet mushrooms. To roast mushrooms, simply place them on a baking sheet, drizzle with oil, and season with salt and pepper. Roast in the oven until the mushrooms are tender and golden brown. Roasted mushrooms can be served as a side dish, added to soups, stews, or pasta, or used as a filling for omelettes, quiches, or sandwiches. To add even more flavor, you can also roast other ingredients such as garlic, onions, or herbs along with the mushrooms.

Can mushrooms be eaten raw?

Cooking mushrooms is crucial for unlocking their full nutritional potential. Research has shown that cooking increases the bioavailability of certain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in mushrooms. For example, cooking can increase the amount of available B vitamins, potassium, and ergosterol, a precursor to vitamin D, in mushrooms. By cooking your mushrooms, you can get the most nutritional benefit from this delicious and versatile ingredient.

While raw mushrooms may seem like a healthy and crunchy addition to salads and snacks, they can actually cause digestive problems for some people. Raw mushrooms contain complex carbohydrates that are difficult to digest, leading to bloating, gas, and other digestive issues. Cooking the mushrooms breaks down these carbohydrates and makes the nutrients more easily absorbable by the body. By cooking your mushrooms, you can enjoy all of their nutritional benefits without any digestive discomfort.

Antioxidants are essential for maintaining good health, and mushrooms are a rich source of these beneficial compounds. Cooking can boost the antioxidant properties of mushrooms by breaking down the cell walls and making the antioxidants more readily available. Whether you sauté, roast, or grill your mushrooms, cooking is an excellent way to maximize the antioxidant benefits and help protect your body from oxidative stress and damage. By incorporating cooked mushrooms into your diet, you can get the most out of this nutritious ingredient and support your overall health and wellness.

What is the shelf life of fresh mushrooms?

We recommend using them within a week and a half.

Do I have to wash fresh mushrooms?

The types of mushrooms that we are selling at this point are not grown on manure like your typical store bought "Bellas." Therefore, we recommend not washing them as they can soak up an unnecessary amount of water. If anything, give them a quick brush off.

There is a yellow liquid in my grow kit, is it going bad?

No, the yellow you are seeing are metabolites that the mycelium excretes in order to break down the substrate. This is normal.

Can kids use the mushroom grow blocks?

EVERYONE can use grow blocks. However, since you will be cutting, it is recommended that children have adult supervision.
